In October 2015, I joined Zahner as an operations manager in charge of their Grand Prairie manufacturing facility. This facility manufactures high end sheet metal surfaces for customers all over the world. There were two shifts of about 30-40 people with direct reports of value stream leaders, engineers, materials coordinator, and security/administration. During my time at Zahner, I focused on implementation of 5S, written procedures, video training packages, environmental compliance, and changing the culture to embrace continuous improvement and lean concepts. I enjoyed my time at Zahner with accomplishments such as a setup reduction on an automated process from 5 days to 2 days, implementation of a 4kw Trumpf Laser Cutter, installing a CNC Trumpf punch, achieving and receiving an Environmental Compliance Award from the City of a Grand Prairie and an Energy Reduction Award for implementing two electric compressors to eliminate the use of a diesel compressor. In July 2016, Zahner and I parted ways on good terms. They had a new direction they wanted to move the company and I needed a shorter commute, which was 80 minutes one way. I will always have fond memories of the employees and the work we accomplished.
